Family Law
Khula, custody, maintenance, inheritance.
Stay: days · Khula: months
Family work demands two things at once: firmness in court and discretion outside it. I take khula, divorce, custody of minors, maintenance, dower and inheritance before the Family Courts of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
I prepare the file so the judge can decide: nikahnama, birth certificates, school records, proof of means. Where a settlement protects the children and can be made a consent order, I pursue it. Where it cannot, I try the case.
Meetings are held in my office, not in corridors. What you tell me is privileged. Nothing leaves this relationship.
- Khula and dissolution of marriage
- Custody, visitation and guardianship
- Maintenance and dower (haq mehr)
- Succession certificates and inheritance
- Protection and stay applications
- Negotiated family settlements
Bring to the first meeting
Nikahnama, CNICs, children’s documents (birth certificates, school records), and a clear note of what you want the court to order.
Questions
On family law.
How is khula obtained in Punjab?
A wife files a suit for dissolution of marriage in the Family Court. After notice, the court attempts reconciliation. If that fails, khula is decreed, typically against return of dower as the court directs. Timelines vary; many uncontested matters conclude in a matter of months.
Will the children have to attend court?
Not usually at the first hearings. The Family Court may interview a child in chambers where custody is contested. I work to keep children out of the courtroom as far as the law allows.
